RIP Kenzo Takada (aged 81), whose Covid-related death comes exactly 50 years since his runway debut at Paris Fashion Week. The first Japanese designer to make his mark in Paris, where he intended to stay only six months, Kenzo was celebrated for his joyous experiments in color, graphics and floral prints.
In 1993, Kenzo sold his house to LVMH and retired from fashion six years later, while his line, KENZO, continued. Current creative director Felipe Oliveira Baptista wrote on Instagram: “It is with great sadness that I have learned the passing away of Mr Kenzo Takada. His amazing energy, kindness, talent and smile were contagious. His kindred spirit will live forever. Rest in peace Master.”
